      Course Title:  Anderson University Choir

      Credit:  One Semester Hour

      Place:  Gambrill Choral Room, CSRFAC

      Time:  11:30-12:20 MWF

 

 Course description:  The AU Choir is a choral ensemble appropriate for the general       student.  The group plays an important role in the life of the college and commu-      nity by performing in concerts, at area churches, and on special occasions.  Rep-      ertoire varies from semester to semester and covers a wide range of styles.   The       course also includes work on basic vocal technique and music reading skills.

Prerequisites:  Audition, repeatable.  Open to all students by audition.

III. COURSE OBJECTIVES

      A.  Glorify God through performance and individual growth

      B.  Expose students to a variety of choral literature including important works by              major composers

      C.  Students will develop good vocal technique

      D.  Students will develop good rehearsal habits

      E.  Students will improve music reading skills and understanding of musical                     terminology

 

IV.   METHODS OF ASSESSING ACHIEVEMENT OF COURSE OBJECTIVES

      A.  Attendance at concerts

      B.  Attendance at rehearsals

      C.  The instructor reserves the right to have students perform their part for                  evaluation at any time either individually and in private or in groups

      D.  The instructor reserves the right to examine student scores to see if required

            markings have been added.

 

 V.  GRADING POLICIES AND PROCEDURES                           

 Choir grades are determined as follows:

      A.  Attendance:

          1.  An unexcused concert absence results in failure of course.  (See                       XI. Course Policies, below for definitions of excused and unexcused.)

          2.  Each unexcused rehearsal absence reduces your grade by one letter.

          3.  Three unexcused tardies reduce your grade by one letter.

      B  Part Test (Required for individuals with more than two absences at midterm at            the director’s discretion)

Poor performance on part test will reduce grade, possibly requiring student to withdraw or fail the course.
