IX. TEXTBOOK AND SUPPLEMENTARY READINGS; UNIFORMS

A numbered folder with music will be assigned to each student.  EACH STUDENT MUST HAVE HIS OR HER OWN FOLDER AND PENCIL AT EVERY REHEARSAL.   Each student is required to keep several pencils in his or her folder. 

 

 CONCERT ATTIRE AND APPEARANCE:  black, full-length formal dress for women and tuxedo with white shirt, black tie, and black cummerbund for men.  The choir will provide a dress or tuxedo pants and coat to each singer.  The choir will maintain, store, and clean these items.  For these materials and services each choir member will be assessed $20.00 per semester.  Funds from this fee will also be used to defray the cost of new uniforms and of social activities. 

Men are responsible for acquiring and maintaining a clean, white tux shirt.

 

       A choir must present a uniform look.  Just as there should be a perfect blend in tone, no one singer should distract visually distract from the group.  Also, in every appearance the choir makes, choir members are ambassadors for Anderson University and Jesus Christ.  We want not only a good first impression, but a great lasting image.   In addition to the concert dress stated above, the following is required for performances:

       Men:  shirts should be clean and pressed; black dress shoes with black socks; hair is to be well groomed, pulled back away from the face.  Alarms and all sounds on watches must be turned off.  No jewelry of any kind.

       Women:  No jewelry of any kind.; hair must be pulled back away from the face, preferably up; no; closed-toe black shoes, black hoseiry.  Dress Hem should be neat and even.  DO NOT CUT DRESS TO HEM.

 

 Note:  The conductor reserves the right to request a singer change before a concert appearance if she deems the singer’s appearance to be distracting from the group.

 XI. COURSE POLICIES

All e-mail communication will be through AU e-mail accounts.

If you miss more than six classes for any reason, you must withdraw or fail the course.

If you miss a performance without an excuse, you must withdraw or fail the course.

If you miss a class without an excuse, your grade will be lowered by one letter.

The following excuses are valid if presented in writing at the rehearsal immediately following the absence:

Illness documented by a health care professional

Death in the immediate family

Significant professional opportunity

Tardies excused by an official of the college

Three tardies equal one absence.

If a student anticipates a conflict with a performance other than an officially sanctioned school event, he or she must discuss it with the director during the first week of classes.  The director will determine if the absence is excused.  If it is not, he may or may not offer opportunities to make up the absence through service to the choir.  The choir is not obligated to give consideration to such conflicts after the first week of classes.

Cell phones, beepers, pagers, etc are not allowed in the choral room during rehearsal.

No food or beverages allowed in choral room except for water in closed container.  NO FOOD OR DRINK NEAR THE PIANO, EVER.
