SUBJECT:  Call for New General Education Course Proposals

After an initial organizational meeting, the GECC is accepting preliminary proposals for new general education courses.  The deadline for submission of initial proposals is noon, Friday, March 14, 2003.

The committee asks that you prepare a 1-page proposal that includes the following:

·      Names of faculty work group developing the course

·      Discipline(s) addressed

·      Level of educational experience for students, e.g. beginning, intermediate, advanced

·      General narrative description of the course

Although not required with the initial proposal, we ask you to review the attached sheet that lists the General Education Outcomes (passed unanimously by faculty in December 2001) in a table format for easy reference.

Following preliminary proposal acceptance by the GECC, this document should serve as a major reference during the period of course development.

As a reminder, once proposals are accepted by the GECC, the faculty directly involved in course development will receive a stipend of 1/3 of the following amounts:

Disciplinary classes - $300 per faculty for a maximum of 2 faculty members

Interdisciplinary classes - $750 per faculty for a maximum of 3 faculty members
